Bruce Willis was born on March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany before becoming an American actor who gained fame through blockbuster action movies particularly the Die Hard franchise.

Early Life & Career Beginnings

Willis entered this world during the time when his father served at an American military base before his family moved to New Jersey in 1957. The beginning of his career followed high school when he took various jobs until enrolling at Montclair State College which later became Montclair State University for theatre studies. He made the decision to drop out from college to act in New York City and secured parts in Off-Broadway shows and multiple Bruce Willis television advertisement spots.

Breakthrough with Moonlighting

Willis made his first film appearances in small roles leading up to his major role in the popular television program Moonlighting (1985–89) alongside Cybill Shepherd. His role in Moonlighting brought him global stardom and created profitable opportunities for him in the movie industry.

Rise to Action Hero Status: Die Hard and Beyond

Willis delivered his iconic performance as John McClane in 1988 when he played a clever New York City police detective caught up in terrorists targeting an Los Angeles skyscraper building in Die Hard. The actor appeared in three distinct roles throughout 2012 as he played a police officer in Moonrise Kingdom and ended up playing a contract killer in Looper then a gambler in Lay the Favorite. Willis maintained his high-intensity film career by starring in G.I. Joe: Retaliation during 2013.
